Charlotte, N.C. -- Carousel Capital, a Charlotte-based private investment firm that invests in companies located in the Southeast, announced on Friday that it has acquired, in partnership with company management, Mergent, a Fort Mill-based provider of business and financial data. Mergent provides data to reference libraries, business informatics providers and investment professionals. Mergent was acquired from Xinhua Finance, a China-based financial information and media service provider. Financing for the transaction was provided by Goldman Sachs Specialty Lending Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

o Atlanta-based Video Display Corp. Acquires Display Concepts

Atlanta -- Video Display Corp., an Atlanta-based maker of display devices for high-end military, training and simulation applications, announced on Friday that it has acquired Display Concepts, a privately held, Wisconsin-based provider of replacement LCD monitors for automated teller machine (ATM) upgrade and repair. The company will retain the Display Concepts brand and its existing sales and support office in Wisconsin, with product design and production being incorporated into its Z-AXIS’ manufacturing center in Phelps, NY. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

o Delray Beach-based VeriChip Completes $47.9 Million Sale of Xmark

Delray Beach, Fla. – VeriChip, a Delray Beach-based provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) systems for healthcare and patient-related needs, announced it has completed the sale of its subsidiary, Xmark, to Stanley Canada, a subsidiary of The Stanley Works for $47.9 million in cash. VeriChip said that it expects to realize net proceeds from the deal of about $24.8 million.

o Tampa-based Global Imaging Acquires Sierra Office Solutions

Tampa, Fla. -- Global Imaging Systems, a Xerox company based in Tampa that provides electronic office equipment, announced that it has acquired Precision Copier Service, a Nevada-based provider of office technology products. Sierra will continue to operate as a stand-alone satellite of Inland Business Systems, a Global core company based in Sacramento, Calif., as it begins offering Xerox’s full range of office printing products. Sierra Office Solutions also has offices in Las Vegas and Carson City, Nev. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

o Leesburg-Based Space Angels Issues Call for Aerospace Ventures

Leesburg, Va. -- Space Angels Network, a Leesburg-based network of seed- and early-stage investors focused on the aerospace industry, has issued a call for applicants for its first Aerospace Venture Forum, scheduled for Sep. 26 in Los Angeles. The full-day event will showcase entrepreneurs from promising aerospace ventures to present their business plans to an audience of active accredited investors. Guillermo Sohnlein, the founder and managing director of Space Angels Network, called the event a "natural step" for his organization, which already provides a platform for bringing together entrepreneurs and investors online.

(Atlanta) Xethanol, an Atlanta-based, renewable energy company, has hired Dr. Rom Papadopoulos, former managing director of The Jacoby Group, an Atlanta based investment group, to serve as its COO and CFO. In those roles, Dr. Papadopoulos will explore growth alternatives for Xethanol’s business, according to the announcement.

(Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) Cross Match Technologies, a Palm Beach Gardens-based provider of biometric identity technology, announced that its president and CEO, James W. Ziglar, plans to retire in August. The company’s board of directors has not announced Ziglar’s successor.

EMC, the Hopkinton-based data storage technology company, announced on Friday that it has donated $70,000 in technology and services to the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) in North Carolina. With this technology, PARI will collect and allow access to celestial observation data for astronomers, researchers and students, the company said.
